Acute Primary Care Ophthalmology Service

APCOS (Acute Primary Care Ophthalmology Service)

This service operates six days a week and provides acute and emergency eye care for patients across Kent and Medway under the NHS. We aim to see all patients within 36 hours, and we strongly recommend calling ahead so that we can allocate an appointment time and appropriate testing. We accept self-referrals as well as referrals from opticians, GPs, NHS 111, and Maidstone A&E. All appointments and any prescribed treatments are provided under the NHS, comparable to the care you would receive from your GP or a hospital eye specialist.

Community Ophthalmology

COT (Community Ophthalmology team)

Our ophthalmology clinics operate twice weekly and are available by referral only; this is not a walk-in service. We accept routine referrals from opticians, GPs, and Maidstone Hospital for a wide range of eye conditions. Common reasons for referral include glaucoma, macular degeneration, and other ocular concerns requiring further investigation or specialist assessment. All patients are reviewed by our experienced therapeutic specialists, ensuring comprehensive evaluation and high-quality care.

Aftercare in the Community

2 - 4 week Post Cataract Surgery Assessment

We provide a service for patients who have had their cataract surgery in our local hospital without complications, whereby we can carry out the 2-4 week follow-up in the community before deciding whether to discharge you back to routine care or manage in the event of any complications. This service will be offered to you, if suitable, after surgery at the hospital.

Specialist Dry Eye Clinics

These ophthalmology clinics are carried out twice a week. This is not a walk-in service. We accept and see routine referrals from opticians, GPs and Maidstone hospital. These can be for a range of conditions, however, most commonly for conditions such as Glaucoma, Macula Degeneration or miscellaneous eye concerns where other professionals are not sure of the cause and would like further investigation or opinion from one of our therapeutic specialists.

We recommend having an eye test every two years, though certain conditions or lifestyle factors may require more frequent visits. Our optometrists will advise you on the best schedule to keep your eyes healthy.

A great opticians. Such lovely staff especially Nyree and Manish who made me feel very comfortable and gave me incredibly detailed information about my eyes. I will be going back as will my whole family when our next eye tests are due.

Delighted with the service I received.
In the UK for a few days & my glasses needed adjusting.
The lovely young lady who helped me, tightened & readjusted my glasses & cleaned them for me.
I would definitely recommend eye2eye in Maidstone to everybody.

Referred following an eye test where they found a freckle behind the eye. Within 48 hours I had an appointment and eye was scanned and I was told nothing serious but should be kept under review. Told scan and check in 6 months and received a call and offer of appointment. I was seen by Mr Manish Patel who explained everything clearly and thoroughly. He and his staff provide an excellent service. Would highly recommend and would not go anywhere else.
